Hedge trimming that frames your property
A well-kept hedge is one of the easiest ways to instantly upgrade the look of a property. It defines space, adds privacy, and gives your home a polished, cared-for feel. A neglected hedge does the opposite — it makes everything around it look unfinished.
River Oak Tree Service Ltd provides professional hedge trimming for homeowners and property managers across Ontario. Whether it's a long cedar privacy hedge, formal boxwood borders, or mixed ornamentals, we keep them sharp, healthy, and looking their best.
Hedges we work on
- Cedar: The most common privacy hedge in Ontario. We trim for height, density, and clean vertical faces.
- Boxwood: Formal shaping into hedges, balls, and topiary forms.
- Yew: A classic, dense hedge that takes shaping beautifully.
- Privet, beech, hornbeam: Deciduous and semi-evergreen hedges trimmed for shape and health.
- Mixed and ornamental hedges: Custom approaches for unusual or layered plantings.
When to trim your hedges
Most Ontario hedges benefit from one to two trims per year. A late spring trim (after the first flush of growth) sets a clean shape for summer; a late summer trim refines that shape and prepares the hedge for winter. Fast growers like cedar and privet may want three light trims a year to stay sharp.
We'll recommend the right schedule for your specific hedges and offer maintenance plans so you don't have to think about it.
Healthier hedges over time
Good trimming isn't just cosmetic. Keeping a hedge slightly tapered (wider at the base than the top) lets sunlight reach the lower branches, preventing the bare-bottom look that's so common with neglected cedars. We also remove any dead or diseased growth so the rest of the plant stays vigorous.
